James Humphrey - Lay Elder
I've been blessed to be a part of Calvary Church since 2017. My wife, Katie, and I have two kids. We're grateful for the Lord's work in cultivating faith, hope, and love in our church family here at Calvary. God is good.
I'm a Purdue grad, working in the field of finance. Outside of life and ministry at Calvary, you'll probably find me spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, listening to podcasts while doing some kind of physical activity, or cheering too intensely at my kids' activities. I don't have a quote to spotlight, but if I were to have one, odds are it would be something from Herman Bavinck or Shai Linne.
Jeff Tague - Lead Elder
I grew up in Hendricks County but was gone for about a decade, attending Cedarville University and then serving in my first pastorate, both in Ohio. I was thrilled with the opportunity to return in June, 1997. God’s gracious leading has afforded me the privilege of being back home again in Indiana, serving Calvary Plainfield. I am so grateful!
I love spending time with my family, especially traveling with my wife Janna. We enjoy different destinations, but Florida is our default. You're likely to see us walking around town, or to see me e-biking. We also have lots of family close by--our kids and grandchildren, my parents, my siblings and their families. What a blessing!
I find great joy in reading all kinds of books, but especially theology. Workers for Your Joy is a David Mathis title published in 2022 (Crossway). A passage in that work challenges and encourages me at the same time: "...men of God learn to press through their temptations to paralysis and resignation because of their imperfections. They happily lean on Christ as the perfect and great shepherd of the sheep, roll their burdens onto his broad shoulders (1 Pet. 5:7), remember that his Spirit lives and works in them, and then learn to take the next courageous, humble step--ready to repent and retry if it was the wrong one." I guess that's my prayer for my ministry in a nutshell, for the joy of my church family and the glory of my Savior.
Jordan Hellwig - Student Director & Staff Elder
For better or worse, I'm the only elder who didn't grow up a Hoosier. I was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio and graduated from Cedarville University, where I met my wife, Alyssa. We graduated and married in 2015, and had two girls in tow by the time we landed here in 2019. It's been a rich blessing to grow and serve at Calvary. We love it here.
I enjoy following baseball, making coffee, listening to the Bible Talk podcast, and making movies with my girls :) I do not find as much joy in reading as Jeff and James, but I've benefited recently from some really good books. Michael Reeves's Delighting in the Trinity comes to mind, and Reeves's quote: "The bedrock of our faith is nothing less than God himself, and every aspect of the gospel -- creation, revelation, salvation -- is only Christian insofar as it is the creation, revelation and salvation of this God, the triune God...The Trinity is the cockpit of all Christian thinking."
